Das Vorbild dieses Vollmer-Modells kann auf eine bewegte Vergangenheit zurückblicken. Bereits im Jahr 1235 soll auf der Anhöhe am westlichen Neckarufer eine Kirche gestanden haben. Ihr folgte 1470 zunächst ein Neubau im gotischen Stil, der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts durch eine neugotische Kirche ersetzt wurde. Nach der fast völligen Zerstörung im 2. Weltkrieg wurde die Kirche schließlich 1954/55 wieder aufgebaut, so dass sich ihr Äußeres heute kaum von der neugotischen Vorgängerin unterscheidet. Passend zur Kirche gibt es die Freitreppe Art. 47759.
